Ergänzung SS 503 Tiger II

Hier können Bilder als Vorschläge zur Ergänzung der Galerie gepostet werden. Wenn sich Bilder nicht sebst erklären(durch Turmnummer z.B.) dann bitte weitere Informationen geben die die Zugehörigkeit zur Einheit belegen.

Use this thread to post pics to complete the gallery. If the Tiger's identification is not obvious (doesn't show turret number etc.) please explain how the identification is arrived at.

Tiger II "311" der sSSPzAbt 503 in Berlin an dem bislang noch unbekannten Bahnhof.

Hier sieht man dann auch schon besser, dass diese Tiger der SS503 natürlich auch Fabriktarnung hatten.

Öscha. Türk's Tiger near Potsdamer Bahnhof

Meant to post this before but been too busy for months !

Anyway, as far as I know, there are only 3 photos of this Tiger... :







...and only one shows part of its callsign : '10?'

I thus wonder why it has always been maintained that this Tiger was '100' since the photo only shows the first two digits and again, I'm not aware of any account describing this tank as '100' or any official CO's/callsigns tables for SS503.

Now the last photo showing the RHS is quite poor but after further study, I think there may be a trace of a '1' as the last digit :







If correct, this would then make this Tiger '101', not '100'.

Additionally, since there was a close connection between SS502 and SS503, and in the light of the latest findings re SS502 numbering sytem as described in Heimdal's recent album 'Tiger!', I can't help thinking that '101' would be a more likely number anyway since SS502 / 1.Kp Kompaniechef's Panzer is said to have had callsign '101' and Kompanietruppführer's Panzer callsign '102'.

Guys, any thoughts ?

You present a very well thought out argument backed up with pretty solid evidence. I can definitely see the outline "1" you're pointing out, and I have to agree that it would make sense for the vehicle to be numbered #101 for the same reason you listed.

Great detective work. I always enjoy reading your posts and contributions here and on other sites (i.e. Missing-Lynx).

Hi Robert,

thanks for posting those pics. This TII is interesting...the turret has been blown off so looks like it was demolished by its crew...also you mention "after breakout attempt"...if both of these points are correct are we then looking at Diers' Tiger ?
Do you have a source for this pic as I'd like to see a larger image ?

Hi Yann!

For this Tiger II with blown up turret there would be only this three possibilities

1st Untersturmführer Oskar Schäfer
2nd Obersturmführer Max Lippert
3rd Oberscharführer Stolze


For some personal reasons i think this Tiger II was from Oberscharführer Stolze.

Hallo Yann!

I've got a very poor active english, so I write in german ...

Tolle Recherche! Da ich an einem Modell zu diesem Fahrzeug bin, interessiert mich das besonders.
Kannst Du auf der Heckklappe irgendwelche Zahlen entdecken?! (ich bisher nicht ...)
Und ist Deiner Meinung nach das "Instandsetzungsbild" (vermutlich in Ostpreußen) auf dem man eigentlich nur die "1" und das "G" am Heck sehen kann, das gleiche Fahrzeug?

These pictures have a quite poor quality but on a bit better one there there is really no doubt about it that the last digit is a "1". Hopefully when i get this russian neewsreel in the next time, from where this screenshot was taken, we do see more from this Tiger. By the way his name was Turk.

Brommann's KO'd/Abandoned TigerII?

I think the images posted above by Evgeniy show Brommann's KO'd/Abandoned Tiger.

Note the welded repair patch on the turret side and the position of the dark patch of camo:



Now here's an image of the gunner Reichel, aloft Brommann's Tiger; the same repair patch and camo:



Also, both Tigers have the same missing front fender pieces and the tow clevis fitted in the front right lug:

Tiger 314 von Uscha G. Diers

Hallo Chris,

das könnte der Tiger #314 von Uscha G. Diers sein. Ich hab mal im Berliner Adressbuch von 1943 nach "Anton Schnur & Co." (der Firmenname am Gebäude im Hintergrund) gesucht. Die Adresse lautet: Schönhauser Allee 117 (Ecke Kopenhagener Straße) am Schönhauser S-Bahn-Hof, also genau dort, wo Diers nach eigener Aussage seinen Tiger II aufgibt, nachdem er auf Minen gelaufen war. Das soll sich am 3. Mai morgens abgespielt haben. Nur die Straßenbahngleise im Vordergrund irritieren, da laut Stadtplan (1932) dort die S-Bahn als Hochbahn verkehrt. Die Gleise sollten irgendwie anders aussehen ...

Tiger II von Ostuf. Lippert

Hallo zusammen,

das könnten die aufgegeben Fahrzeuge (Wirbelwind und Panther) der Ausbruchsgruppe am 2. Mai über den Spandauer Damm sein. Schließlich werden die letzten Panzer wegen Benzinmangel in Staaken aufgegeben. Dann sollte der hier zu sehende Tiger II von Kommandant Lippert sein.
