A few posts above you identified that #323 is seen with different types of jack. The presence of a 20t jack would suggest a photo date in 1944 and hence the retro-fitting of hull side brackets.
But the absence of turret Balkenkreuz suggests a date pre-Kursk.
Looking at the jack itself, two handles can be seen, but the Tiger's 20t jack has one handle only. Reference to Per Sonnervik's Panzerbasics page, tells us that the 10t jack has two handles and the square type of foot plate.
Perhaps the damage which caused the impact mark and missing clamp also destroyed the original jack and a 10t one was used until a 15t replacement could be obtained.
Chris.
Edit: replaced copy of Grant's photo with higher resolution copy
You're very very probably right. I hadn't considered another type of jack.
Also, to be honest, I couldn't figure out the lack of turret bin Balkenkreuz. Considering they were still seen on the 503 'mids' of winter/spring '44. Plus there's no evidence in the image of a paint over.
Your Historicamedia image looks much sharper.
Is there any evidence of this hit mark on it?:
If it's not there, it must be an earlier pic.
If it is there, it's still very very probably an earlier pic
Used this spelling on Google maps, but nothing came up, does anyone know the correct spelling or modern day name?
Tolokonoje Woods, it is a wood near to village Tolokonnîje. I have found only one village with such name. On a Google maps there is no name of this village.
